Background

At the Executive Member Decision Session for Culture, Leisure and Communities on 21 October 2019 (link below), the £250k play area capital budget was allocated to two projects.

·        Project 1 - £150k for improvements based on an independent survey of City Council and Parish Council play areas to establish a needs based investment programme

·        Project 2 - £100k fund that the community could bid to.

Due to Covid restrictions Project 1 was put on hold; Project 2 was launched in February this year.  Applications for Project 2 were three times oversubscribed, with 30 applications spread across 15 wards. Following site visits with applicants 26 schemes meet Project 2 objectives.  Where there is more than one application in a ward, the applications are for different locations and serve different communities.
